AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF CONTRACT LAW

&

THE COMMON TYPES OF “CONTRACTS FOR SERVICE” IN ESTATES AND MILLS

 

We are pleased to inform members that a Regional Seminar on the above-mentioned topic will be held as follows:-

            Date     :           Monday, 9th July 2018

            Time    :           9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.

            Venue  :           Prime City Hotel

                                    No.20, Jalan Bakawali,

                                    86000, Kluang, Johor.

 

2.         The above topic shall primarily focus on the principles of law governing “contracts of service”, that is the contract with independent contractors engaged in estates and palm oil mills. Alongside the main theme, the seminar is also tailored to enlighten members on the general principles of contract law and the distinction between a “contract of service” and “contract for service”.

            In addition to the above, members would also be guided on the following specific types of contracts typical in a plantation environment:

(a)          Contract for Construction of Quarters for Workers in the Estate;

(b)         Contract for Replanting Work in the Estate;

(c)          Contract for Hauling Services;

(d)         Contract for Harvesting of Crops in the Estate; and

(e)          Contract for the Sale of Crops.

            Participating members shall be provided with a sample copy each of the above contracts for their retention and reference.

3.         The Speaker for the Seminar will be Mr Rajan A. Applasamy of Messrs Maxwell Kenion Cowdy and Jones. Mr Rajan, a practising lawyer and Partner of the firm, has more than 21 years of experience in litigation and matters pertaining to all types of contracts.

 

4.         Plantation Directors, General Managers, Group Managers, Senior Managers, Estate Managers, Mill Managers, Senior Assistants, Assistant Managers and other executives are encouraged to attend the Seminar as it would further enhance their understanding and technical knowledge on contract law relating to contract for service.
